Crabtree, Deputy Fire Chief <br />Car-rboro Fire Department <br />R,e: Alternative Water Point for WestHampton Subdivision <br />The fire department requests that ari approved alternative water source <br />be provided within 1.5 miles of the new subdivision proposed to be <br />located orn. Hatch Road south of Highway 54 West. The fire <br />department, as well as their mutual aid departments, would utilize this <br />water point to provide water for fire protection services. <br />This water source must be certified by a registered professional <br />engineer or soil conservationist that the water source will provide a <br />mininurn of 30,000 gallons of usable firefighting water and/or be able <br />to deliver a minimum of 2.50 gallons of water per minute for no less <br />than a two (2,) hour duration during a drought with an average SO-year <br />frequency. Arn all weather driving surface capable of supporting the <br />imposed loads of a 40,000 lbs. fixe pumper must be provided to ensure <br />year-round accessibility. <br />The developer shall obtain a written statement signed by the owner of <br />any private suction water supply point, authorizing its use by the fire <br />department for emergency firefighting use acrd at least quarterly <br />maintenance backflushing performed by the fire department along with <br />any water supply training deemed necessary by the fire chief. <br />Additionally, a posted and approved reflective sign shall be erected at <br />the location that is visible in t7oth directions for a minimum of 200 feet, <br />30 t West Main Street, Carrboro, Norl(i Carolina 27510 Yhone (919) 918-7349 Fax (97 9) 932-5359 <br />An ?qual Opportunity Employer <br />
