ASAB Approved Minutes
August 16, 2006Meeting
Page 3
crime associated with chained dogs; children attacked by chained dog and the overall
aggressiveness of chained dogs; and experiences with embedded chains or collars in the necks of
dogs and chained dogs not being vaccinated or spay/neutered.
Tom Garner spoke on his views for tethering. He did a comparison of the space available to a
dog that stays in a 10 foot by ten foot pen versus a dog with a ten foot tether. He indicated that
tethering was more secure, provided dogs with more space, resulted in fewer injuries, and that
tethered dogs have a greater sense of freedom.
Motion was made by Pat Sanford and seconded by Moses Carey, Jr. to select Jean Connerat
Levine, Dr. Kristine Bergstrand, Bob Marotto and Irene Paul to create a Tethering Committee
charged with gathering and organizing pertinent information and identifying avenues of public
input and comment on any possible recommendations. The motion also indicated that the
Tethering Committee includes a crosssection of community members of representatives relative
to the issue of tethering. VOTE: Unanimous.
Motion was made by Jean ConneratLevine and seconded by Jim Kramer to have an
ASAB Meeting on September 20 th , 2006.
