ASAB Approved Meeting Minutes— <br />June 20th, 2007 <br />Page 2 <br />approach may be desirable and also that there may need to be some exceptions to any general <br />restrictions. <br />Keeping of Wild Animals Ordinance Task Force—Ross Oglesbee gave an update and she <br />reported that Ms. Kindra Mammone had asked that her proposal for an ordinance change be <br />withdrawn. She reported further that there will be one more Task Force meeting held in July and <br />that a draft report summarizing the work of the Task Force would then be prepared and brought <br />back to the ASAB for discussion. <br />Animal Placement and Fostering Updates—Jessica Allison reviewed handouts of the foster <br />program summary statistics and monthly statistics for April and May. She reported that at the <br />last meeting of the Adoption Committee the following issues were discussed; identifying behavior <br />and /safety issues before animals are placed for adoption and categorizing reasons for <br />euthanasia in categories that identify severity allows for more meaningful statistics. The ASAB <br />committee suggested a few small changes be made to the Status Report but overall the committee <br />is very pleased with the new format and all the progress that has been made. Jessica also <br />reported that Jim Kramer and Caroline Green continue to work on the “Placement Partners <br />Draft” and will have it ready to present at an upcoming ASAB meeting. <br />New Animal Services FacilityBob Marotto gave an update on the progress of the new shelter. <br />The architects are approaching completion of the final floor and site plan. They are exiting the <br />schematic stage and entering the design phase. The Board of County Commissioners approved <br />the concept for the new facility and the project received a positive response at the public hearing <br />regarding a special use permit held on June 18,2007 with the Chapel Hill Town Council <br />regarding the Special Use Permit and the response was very positive and supportive. <br />New Business <br />Spring Reappointments of Board Members—Paula Ragan reported that the Board of County <br />Commissioners reappointed Bonnie Norwood, Pat Sanford, Kristine Bergstrand and DeWana <br />Anderson to the Animal Services Advisory Board for a 3 year term at their May 15, 2007meeting. <br />Each of their terms will expire June 30 th , 2010. <br />Volunteer Recognition – Paula Ragan reviewed an Orange County Board of <br />Commissioners Resolution for Volunteer Recognition in Orange County. Each board <br />member was recognized and thanked for all of their hard work, dedication, commitment <br />and the time that they volunteer to the Animal Services Advisory Board and presented <br />with a portfolio from the County Clerk’s Office. <br />Dangerous Dog Proposed AmendmentIrene Paul, Animal Control Manger distributed <br />a copy of Senate Bill 92 (Dangerous Dogs/Financial Responsibility) adopted on May 8, <br />2007, and it was reported that it has been withdrawn and may be revisited and rewritten <br />at a later date.
