Approved Animal Services Advisory Board (ASAB) <br />Minutes for July 18th, 2007 Meeting <br />Present ASAB Members: Daniel Textoris,Kristine Bergstrand, Ross Oglesbee, Pat Sanford, <br />Bonnie Norwood, Susan Elmore, Jean Connerat Austin, Tracy Carroll, James Kramer, Carolina <br />Green and Moses Carey. <br />Absent ASAB Members: DeWana Anderson <br />Others in Attendance: Animal Services Director Bob Marotto, Animal Shelter Operations <br />Manager Jessica Allison and Administrative Assistant Paula Ragan. <br />Public Members Present: None <br />Welcome and Opening Comments—Chair of the ASAB Committee, Kristine Bergstrand <br />Motion was made by Bonnie Norwood and seconded by Ross Oglesbee to approve the Agenda <br />dated July 18, 200, as amended with two change: (1) Schedule of Activities for review Under <br />Informal Discussion and (2) Rabies. VOTE: Unanimous <br />Motion was made by Jean Connerat Austin and seconded by Ross Oglesbee to approve the <br />Minutes dated June 20, 200, with one correction to the spelling of Moses Carey’s name in section <br />listing ASAB members present at that meeting. VOTE: Unanimous <br />General Public Comment—None <br />Unfinished Business <br />Shelter Animal Identification—Pat Sanford said that Friends of Orange County Shelters would <br />like to purchase identification tags for both cats and dogs. A discussion was held and it was <br />decided that staff would return to the ASAB with recommendations as soon as possible on the <br />basis of their review of past and present practices and consideration of the registration process <br />for pets and its legal requirements. <br />A related discussion ensued about the possibility of offering microchipping animals besides the <br />ones adopted from the County’s Animal Shelter—for instance, via community outreach effort <br />and/or the lowcost rabies vaccination clinics There was agreement that this possibility would be <br />further explored. . <br />Tethering Committee Kristine Bergstrand reported that the group met last week and have <br />settled on a report and recommendation and it was decided that the easiest way to present the <br />report to the ASAB members is to send out the document and then have a presentation at the next <br />meeting and include the Tethering Committee members in the ASAB discussion of their final <br />report regarding the practice of tethering in Orange County. . <br />.
