Animal Services Advisory Board <br />June 17, 2009 Meeting--Approved Minutes Page 2 <br /> <br /> <br />Placement Partner Committee—Bob Marotto reported that a meeting has been scheduled in <br />July with one of the County Attorneys to review the Draft Placement Partner Agreement and he <br />will give an update at the next meeting. <br /> <br />Pet Overpopulation Committee— Susan Elmore said at this time there has been no additional <br />activity since the edits were made to the draft plan from the previous meetings. The document <br />will go to the Animal Services Staff for final review and then presented to the ASAB members for <br />review and comment. <br /> <br />Bob Marotto reported that the renewal of the fiscal year 09/10 $20 Fix Program Animal Kind <br />contract was proposed to the BOCC and approved. For this coming fiscal year we will work <br />towards more outreach, advertising and hold the annual Spay/Neuter Day event in order to help <br />promote this critical program more successfully. A report on this program with the past two <br />quarter results will be forthcoming for the boards review in July or August. <br /> <br />FY0910 Budget—The County Manager presented the Animal Services budget that was prepared <br />with a 10% reduction to the BOCC in May. One of the goals for this fiscal year is to move to <br />internalize spay/neuter. The surgical suite is in the process of being outfitted and the target date <br />to be operational is around October 2009, that date may change depending on the available <br />funds. <br /> <br />Statistical Summary—Jess Allison and Irene Phipps gave an overview of the May Statistical <br />summaries. The total number of animals admitted and adopted was higher than in April. Two <br />rabies clinics are scheduled for the month of June. <br /> <br />Animal Services Placement Plan—Jess Allison reported that ads are being placed in the Chapel <br />Hill News, News of Orange, Carrboro Citizen and possibly placing another ad in the <br />Independent Weekly if there is enough money left in this years budget. In addition to the <br />newspapers we will be on NBC 17 news, WRAL and the Peoples Channel for the month of June. <br />Some outreach programs will be held at PetSmart, Carrboro and Hillsborough farmers market, <br />Hog Day and Loco Pops in Chapel Hill. <br /> <br />Informal Discussion—Bob Marotto announced that The Humane Society of the United States <br />would sponsor Euthanasia by Injection training in July at the new Animal Services Center. It is <br />estimated that approximately 25 registrants will attend per day. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Jean Austin and seconded by Bonnie Norwood to adjourn the meeting. <br />VOTE: Unanimous. <br /> <br />Next ASAB Meeting: Wednesday, July 15, 2009, at 6:30 p.m. in the Multipurpose Conference <br />Room at the new Animal Services Center, 1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill. <br />
