“Approved Summary” <br />Animal Services Advisory Board (ASAB) <br />July 27, 2010 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m. <br />Multipurpose Meeting Room, Animal Services Center <br /> <br /> <br />Meeting called to order at 6:30 p.m. by Chair, Jean Austin <br /> <br />Present ASAB Members: Jean Austin, Susan Elmore, Kris Bergstrand, Tracy Carroll and <br />Daniel Textoris <br /> <br />Absent ASAB Members: Bonnie Norwood, Mike Nelson and Suzanne Roy <br /> <br />There were a total of 5 board members present which made a quorum. <br /> <br />Motion made by Susan Elmore and seconded by Daniel Textoris to approve the Agenda dated <br />July 27, 2010 VOTE: Unanimous <br /> <br />Motion made by Susan Elmore and seconded by Kris Bergstrand to approve the minutes from <br />May 21, 2010 ASAB Meeting. VOTE: Unanimous <br /> <br />It was reported that the BOCC is continuing their review of the process for County boards and <br />commissions. A number of changes will become effective Sept. 1, 2010. <br /> <br />Pamela Bayne, President of Triangle Wildlife Rehabilitation spoke about partnering with <br />Orange County Animal Services to provide services for calls concerning injured and orphaned <br />wildlife. She and Bob Marotto underscored the value of this new partnership in providing quality <br />services to residents with regard to wildlife concerns and questions. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Jean Austin and seconded by Kris Bergstrand to support “Operation <br />Clean” by selling raffle tickets to raise money for the purchase of a grooming tub to be used at <br />the Animal Services Center. VOTE: Unanimous <br /> <br />A discussion was held regarding a hound that had been at the shelter for a month that ended up <br />being euthanized in June. Space was an issue due to the high volume of incoming animals. Also, <br />an email from Animal Services staff was forwarded to a list serve regarding the hound, which <br />resulted in numerous of email communications and concern about the animal’s euthanasia. <br />Animal Services staff has reviewed what happened and identified practices that will help avoid <br />situations like this from happening in the future. <br /> <br />Motion was made by Kris Bergstrand and seconded by Jean Austin to have an Open House <br />annually. VOTE: Unanimous <br /> <br />There was a potentially dangerous dog appeal hearing held in July for two dogs that were off <br />leash when one of them bit and injured a neighbor’s dog. The appeal board upheld one of the <br />declarations but overturned the other declaration.
