FROM: ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) <br /> <br />SUBJECT: Monthly Meeting Minutes <br />DATE: February 20, 2013 <br />LOCATION: Orange County Animal Services, Eubanks Rd., Chapel Hill NC <br /> <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Susan Elmore (Chair), Michelle Walker (Vice-Chair), Kris <br />Bergstrand (Secretary), Donna Bravo, Jen Merritt, Judy Miller, Aviva Scully, Michael <br />Stewart, Lynn White <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Suzanne Roy, Kate Doom-Patel <br />STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director), Drew Brinkley <br /> <br /> <br />Beginning time of meeting: 6:33 pm <br />Agenda: Motion to approve agenda with item 6a and b reversed in order, and item 8b <br />moved to position 3a was unanimously approved <br />Summary of January 16, 2013 meeting: Reviewed and unanimously approved. <br />General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: Three (3) persons spoke on <br />concern related to a recent post-bite rabies quarantine. They asked the ASAB to <br />consider offering home quarantine in cases such as the one of concern. <br /> <br />ASAB Affairs <br />a. The chairmade a brief statement describing her enthusiasm for her post and <br />expectations of members of the ASAB to participate and follow, to the best of <br />their abilities, the guidelines put forth by the BOCC. <br />b. New Officer Orientation completed on February 4,4 2013. <br />c. Commissioner contact: Chair, Vice Chair, Lynn White and Bob Marotto <br />attended the BOCC Work Session on 2/12/13 to present and consider <br />findings and recommendations of an ASAB task force study on the recovery <br />of stray dogs and cats, including recommendations for the amendment of the <br />county’s animal ordinance. <br />d. Chair, Vice Chair and Bob Marotto also attended the BOCC regular meeting <br />on 2/19/13 to present our community spay and neuter program and a <br />resolution acknowledging 2/26/13 as Spay Neuter Day in Orange County. <br />The Chair and Vice Chair also present a recommendation from the ASAB to <br />support legislation that would provide standards and a registration system for <br />commercial dog breeding facilities. <br />e. Potentially Dangerous Dog Appeals Committee: There were no appeal <br />hearings. <br />f. ASAB Manual Update: Manual components will be sent as electronic copies <br />to all ASAB members as they become available. <br />g. Candidates for vacant at large (non-municipal) ASAB position: JoAnne <br />Andruscavage and Michelle Schoepper <br /> <br /> <br />Monthly Meeting Attendance Record: confirmed <br /> <br />Animal Services Report, Bob Marotto, AS Director <br />a. Update:The cat condo conversions are planned to begin the week of 2/25/13; <br />and a No Kill Pledge request will be considered this year. <br />
