<br /> <br />Orange County Animal Services <br />1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />919-942-PETS (7387) <br /> <br />ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) <br /> <br />6:30 to 8:30 p.m. <br />Wednesday, October 15, 2014 <br /> <br />Meeting Summary <br /> <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Maureane Hoffman; Warren Porter (Vice Chair), Michelle Walker (Chair), <br />Susan Elmore, Caroline Green, Michael Stewart, Aviva Scully <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Arthur Sprinczeles, Dewana Anderson, Beth Grooms, Judy Miller <br />STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto <br /> <br />Agenda: Motion to approve agenda passed and agenda unanimously approved with the addition of an <br />item regarding staff appreciation in ASAB affairs <br /> <br />Summary of September 17, 2014 meeting: Reviewed and unanimously approved <br /> <br />General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None <br /> <br />ASAB Affairs <br />Michelle Walker introduced Maureane Hoffman, our newest member. She also introduced Mike Haskins, <br />a fellow from UNC’s MBA program who will provide support to our Board through April. Adam Wright, <br />a second fellow will be joining us at future meetings. There will be orientation next week for new <br />members and new MBA fellows. <br />• Potentially dangerous dog hearings – There was one hearing and the declaration was upheld. It <br />was determined that the dog who received a potentially dangerous dog declaration had inflicted <br />serious injury on a smaller dog. Two humans were bitten while trying to separate the dogs. The <br />smaller dog was not up to date on its rabies shot and that dog had to be quarantined for ten days. <br />• Nomination for animal welfare/advocate vacancy – The ASAB unanimously approved that <br />Nicole Roth be recommended to the BOCC for position of Animal Welfare/Advocate. <br />• Election of 2015 ASAB Officers – ASAB selected Susan Elmore and Aviva Scully to the <br />nominating committee to present candidates for Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary at our November <br />meeting. <br />• Nomination and election process and timeline – We will be re-nominating folks for service on <br />the Potentially Dangerous Dog Committee so that they will be cycling in coordination with <br />election of ASAB Officers . <br />• Staff Appreciation Event – Judy Miller had suggested that we host an event to show our <br />appreciation for the staff and coordinate it with an OCAS staff meeting. Michelle can attend and <br />any other ASAB member who is available may attend. We will provide food and drink to the <br />members. We do not yet have a date selected. <br /> <br />Old Business <br />• Free-Roaming Cat Task Force Report – Andi and Bob Marotto will put the report in the best <br />format for presentation to the BOCC and the County Manager. Susan Elmore has done revisions. <br />Afterwards, it will be returned to the Task Force and put into a final form to go back before the
