2 <br /> <br />• October meeting was rescheduled from October 22, 2014 to October 15, 2014 by unanimous <br />vote <br /> <br />Old Business <br />(A) Free-Roaming Cat Task Force Update <br />• Task Force Chair DeWana Anderson provided an update on the listening session held for cat <br />caretakers, at which there was an in-depth discussion of the activities and challenges of caring <br />for cat colonies <br /> (B) Unified Animal Ordinance Update <br />• Susan Elmore, Michelle Walker, and Bob Marotto summarized the results of the Board of County <br />Commissioners’ (“BOCC”) work session on April 8, 2014: <br />o The BOCC expressed approval for moving forward with revisions to the proposed <br />Unified Animal Ordinance regarding issues of livestock nuisance regulation, trespass, <br />and watchdog as proposed by the ASAB. Several members of the BOCC expressed <br />support for including a copy of the flowchart produced by Professor Aimee Wall of the <br />School of Government in the ordinance. <br />o BOCC members discussed the possibility of various mechanisms for appeal of potentially <br />dangerous dog and vicious animal declarations that balance the need for efficiency and <br />impartiality. <br /> (C) Support for Kids4Kindness School Program <br />• There was general consensus that the Board wishes to pursue avenues for expressing political <br />support for expansion of the Kids4Kindness School Program aimed at providing responsible pet <br />owner education to 4th graders into all elementary schools in Orange County <br />• Board Chair Michelle Walker to contact the BOCC Chair regarding the procedures available for <br />proceeding with obtaining support from County Commissioners <br /> <br />New Business <br />(A) Animal Services Updates—Bob Marotto <br /> <br />Ongoing and Upcoming Events <br />(A) Spring Adoption Special – April 1-30 <br />(B) National Animal Control Appreciation Week – April 13-19 <br />(C) Clinics <br />• Rabies & Microchip Clinic, 3-5 pm, April 17, Animal Services Center <br />• Rabies, 5-7 pm, May 8, Farmer’s Market House, Hillsborough <br /> <br />Meeting adjourned at: 9:00 PM <br />Name of Minute Taker: Michelle Walker
