1 <br /> <br />Orange County Animal Services <br />1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />919-942-PETS (7387) <br /> <br />ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) <br /> <br />6:30 to 8:30 p.m. <br />Wednesday, June 17, 2015 <br /> <br />Meeting Summary <br /> <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Caroline Green, Judy Miller, Beth Grooms, Michelle Walker (Chair), Warren Porter <br />(Vice-Chair), Susan Elmore, Michael Stewart, Molly Mullins, Maureane Hoffman, Dewana Anderson, <br />Arthur Sprinczeles <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Aviva Scully <br />STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director) <br />_____________________________________________________________________________________ <br /> <br />Agenda: Motion to approve agenda passed and agenda unanimously approved <br /> <br />Summary of May 20, 2015 meeting: Reviewed and unanimously approved <br /> <br />General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None <br /> <br />ASAB Affairs <br />(A) Reappointments for members whose terms are expiring will be renewed by the Board of County <br />Commissioners after recess. Members up for reappointment will continue as members in good <br />standing pending formal reappointment. <br /> <br />Old/New Business <br />(A) Animal Services Update <br />• There have been only 4 cases of confirmed rabies this year <br />• The recent low-cost rabies clinic brought out 125 pet owners (totaling 474 total year-to- <br />date), and eight more clinics are scheduled for the year <br />• The Animal Services budget was approved by the BOCC, including reduced and flexible <br />fees <br />• Unified Animal Ordinance Update: still under consideration by the Carrboro Board of <br />Aldermen; it’s expected to be voted on in early September <br />• The Dog Play/Exercise Area construction will be underway shortly <br />• Friends of OCAS donated money for billboards and banners for free-roaming cat <br />awareness <br />• Community Partnerships: <br />i. AnimalKind: They will help explore why the number of vouchers for low-cost <br />spay/neuter redeemed has fallen <br />ii. Rogers Road Neighborhood Association: Mr. Marotto met with members to talk <br />about how OCAS can improve outreach to area residents <br />
