Orange County Animal Services <br />1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />919 - 942 -PETS (7387) <br />ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) <br />6:30 to 8:30 p.m. <br />Wednesday, October 19, 2016 <br />Meeting Summary <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Warren Porter (Chair), Maureane Hoffman (Vice- Chair), Michael Stewart, Susan Elmore, Judy <br />Miller, Beth Grooms, Victoria Hudson, Aviva Scully, DeWana Anderson, Michelle Walker <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Edmund Tiryakian, Molly Mullin <br />STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director) <br />Call to order: 6:36pm <br />Review and adoption of the Agenda: Agenda item to discuss the nomination of 2017 officers was added. Michael <br />Stewart made a motion to approve the agenda; seconded by Beth Grooms. The motion carried without dissent. <br />Summary of August 18, 2016 meeting: Beth Grooms made a motion to approve the Summary as edited; seconded <br />by Michael Stewart. The motion carried without dissent. <br />General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None. <br />Animal Services Advisory Board: <br />(A) Review of draft progress report and 2017 work plan requested by the Board of County Commissioners <br />The draft was edited with minor changes to correct non - substantive errors, verify partnerships, and <br />submit a placeholder for 2017 ASAB officers (pending). The planned partnership with the Agricultural <br />Preservation Board to facilitate spay /neuter and vaccinate free - roaming cats in the agricultural setting <br />was added to the work plan. Michael Stewart made a motion to approve the work plan; seconded by <br />Beth Grooms. Motion carried without dissention. <br />(B) Further discussion of proposed amendments for Animal Services Advisory Board Policies and <br />Procedures Tabled until November meeting. <br />(C) Appointment of three (3) ASAB members to review panel for Pat Sanford Animal Welfare Grant Award <br />Judy Miller volunteered; Victoria Hudson volunteered; Molly Mullins was nominated; Susan Elmore <br />tentatively volunteered as a panelist in the event Molly Mullins cannot accept the appointment. <br />(D) Nominating Committee appointments <br />Susan Elmore and Dewana Anderson will participate as the Nominating Committee in planning for the <br />November meeting and 2017 slate of ASAB officers. <br />Old Business: <br />(A) Update on discussion about free- roaming cats with Agricultural Preservation Board <br />Last month, Maureane Hoffman and Bob Marotto visited the meeting of the Agricultural Preservation <br />Board to propose the creation of a partnership that addresses (1) relocation of free - roaming cats in <br />undesirable situations within the agricultural setting (abandoned colonies, unwanted colonies, etc.) <br />and (2) free - roaming [barn] cats who already co- habitat farms may be eligible for low cost spay /neuter <br />
