Orange County Animal Services <br />1601 Eubanks Road, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />919 - 942 -PETS (7387) <br />ANIMAL SERVICES ADVISORY BOARD (ASAB) <br />6:30 to 8:30 p.m. <br />Wednesday, May 18, 2016 <br />Meeting Summary <br />MEMBERS PRESENT: Warren Porter (Chair), Judy Miller, Caroline Green, Michael Stewart, Michelle Walker, Aviva <br />Scully, Molly Mullin, Beth Grooms <br />MEMBERS ABSENT: Maureane Hoffman (Vice- Chair), Susan Elmore, Dewana Anderson <br />STAFF PRESENT: Bob Marotto (Animal Services Director) <br />Agenda: Bob asks to update the agenda a summary of a meeting he, Judy and Aviva went to with Corey Root. <br />Warren would like to add a summary of the meeting he and Mike went to with the Greensboro group looking to <br />form their own animal services advisory board. Mike moves to accept the agenda as is; Beth seconds. All vote in <br />favor. <br />Summary of April 20, 2015 meeting: Mike moves to accept the minutes as is; Warren seconds. All vote in favor. <br />General Public Comments on items not on the agenda: None. <br />ASAB Affairs <br />(A) Hillsborough vacancy update <br />• Victoria Hudson has been appointed. Bob and Warren talk about the purpose, function and current <br />focuses of the ASAB. <br />(B) Candidates for upcoming At -Large vacancy <br />• Hilary Cooper, Katie Rosier and Edmund Tiryakian are current applicants, and talk to the board about <br />their background and why they are interested in joining it. Katie decided she couldn't commit to a <br />three -year term, so declined to be considered. <br />• Heather Payne is an applicant who wasn't asked to speak, but felt obliged to address the board about <br />her interest in making OCAS a no -kill facility. <br />(C) Projected vacancy for Potentially Dangerous Dog Appeal Hearing panel <br />• When Caroline steps down from the board, her position on the DDA hearing panel will become vacant <br />and will need to be filled. <br />Old /New Business <br />(A) Animal Welfare Grants Honoring Pat Sanford Update <br />• Judy gives an update, saying that the application is close to finalized. She outlines the timeline for moving <br />forward with the program. <br />(B) Homeless Pets Initiative <br />Bob, Aviva and Judy met with Corey Root, the OC Homeless Program Coordinator. They talked about formal <br />and informal ways to move forward. The issue is very complex, as there are many sorts of homelessness. <br />But Corey is eager to participate in the project, and wants to develop a resource guide for homeless pet <br />owners. The next step is to put together a work group on the issue, from many organizations that straddle <br />this community. Caroline makes a motion to take part in such a work group and Beth seconds; all vote in <br />
