ORANGE COUNTY <br />ADVISORY BOARD ON AGING <br /> <br />Minutes <br />September 13, 2016 <br /> <br />PRESENT: Heather Altman, Mary Altpeter, Colin Austin, Peggy Cohn, Winston Liao, Lorenzo <br />Mejia, Yvonne Mendenhall, Donna Prather, Dick White <br /> <br />EXCUSED: Teri Driscoll <br /> <br />STAFF: Mary Fraser, Yvette Missri, Janice Tyler <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chair Peggy Cohn who introduced new Advisory Board member <br />Colin Austin and returning member Heather Altman. The minutes of the August 9 meeting were <br />approved following the motion made by Ms. Altman and the second by Winston Liao. The Chair <br />announced that UNC’s geriatric practice is relocating to the new UNC Hillsborough Hospital campus. <br /> <br />Director’s Report <br />Janice Tyler announced that a new permanent employee has been hired as the Seymour Evening <br />Facility Manager. That Center is opened each weeknight until 9:00pm as of September 12. <br />The DSS Social Worker position assigned to the Aging Transitions division has been re-advertised <br />and seven candidates will be interviewed in the coming week. The celebration for the renaming of <br />the Central Orange Senior Center in honor of retired Department on Aging Director Jerry M. <br />Passmore will be held on September 29. <br />Ms. Tyler has been meeting with the architect for the upcoming renovations to the Passmore and <br />places. Long range plans for the Triangle Sportsplex campus include a new 50,000 sq. ft. field house, <br />possibly with a senior walking track. <br /> <br />New Business <br />The Chair asked for interest from Board members to serve as the Vice-Chair and Lorenzo Mejia <br />volunteered. Dick White moved and Colin Austin seconded a motion to elect Mr. Mejia. Motion <br />carried. <br /> <br />2017-22 Master Aging Plan <br />Mary Fraser announced that five seniors in UNC’s School of Public Health undergraduate program <br />have been assigned to assist with the Master Aging Plan process. They will have a significant role in <br />the MAP public meetings and work groups. Their first project is to create a power point presentation <br />defining an age friendly community. <br />More than 700 MAP community surveys have already been completed. Surveys will be available <br />through until the end of September. Fourteen focus groups have been held with several trends <br />identified. The results will be compiled for the October meetings. Janice Tyler has completed the <br />key informant interviews with most municipal officials. MAP Leadership Team and Steering <br />Committee meetings will be held in September. The public input meeting are scheduled for October <br />26 (Seymour Center, 9:00-noon) and October 28 (Passmore Center, 1:30-4:30pm). <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />
