ORANGE COUNTY <br />ADVISORY BOARD ON AGING <br /> <br />Minutes <br />April 12, 2016 <br /> <br />PRESENT: Alex Castro, Peggy Cohn, Dan Daniel, Ed Flowers, Winston Liao, Lorenzo Mejia, <br />Yvonne Mendenhall, Donna Prather, Dick White <br /> <br />EXCUSED: Mary Altpeter, Keith Cook, Teri Driscoll <br /> <br />STAFF: Mary Fraser, Kathie Kearns, Yvette Missri, Cherie Rosemond, Janice Tyler <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at the Passmore Center by Chair Alex Castro. Following the <br />addition of Winston Liao as an excused absence, a motion was made by Peggy Cohn and <br />seconded by Mr. Liao to approve the March minutes as distributed. Motion carried. The Chair <br />reported that the Safety Improvements petition was presented to the Chapel Hill Town Council <br />the previous evening. <br /> <br />Two entities were recognized for completion of the Dementia-Friendly Business training and <br />their representatives were presented certificates: <br /> Orange County Public Library – Lucinda Munger <br />Law Office of Colin Austin – Colin Austin <br />The scheduled presentation on Orange County’s Affordable Housing Plan by Housing, Human <br />Rights and Community Development Director Audrey Spencer-Horsley was cancelled. <br /> <br />Director’s Report <br />• Department on Aging staff Janice Tyler, Mary Fraser , Yvette Missri and Zhenzhen Yu <br />attended the American Society on Aging (ASA) annual conference and presented a <br />workshop on Project EngAGE; OCDoA was awarded the ASA 2016 Award for Excellence <br />in Multicultural Aging <br />• TJCOG conducted its annual monitoring visit on April 6-7; the National Institute of Senior <br />Centers’ accreditation application is nearing completion. <br />• The Seymour Center generator is scheduled for installation in the near future. <br />• An outside storage building has been purchased by the Friends of the Seymour Center. <br />• AT social worker Mary Ann Weston is retiring at the end of April and the position <br />vacancy is advertised until April 20. <br /> <br />New Business <br />• The Director reviewed the list of Board members whose terms will end June 30: <br />Alex Castro – end of second term <br />Peggy Cohn – eligible for re-appointment and agrees to serve <br />Ed Flowers – end of second term
