Janice Wells presented a chart that compared the old MAP objectives/goals with the 8 new MAP
goals for 2012 -2017. The board discussed similarities and differences and how the old goals
matched up with the new ones.
Reports:
Haryo Marsosudiro reported for the Friends of the Central Orange Senior Center. He
indicated that the new Friends board had been expanded to 18 members. The main focus now is
preparing for the Harvest Moon Dance fundraiser scheduled for October 1, 2011. Dancing to a
20 piece band, heavy hors d’oeuvres, and a silent auction are highlights of the event. Tickets are
available for $25.
Janice Tyler reported that the Seymour Friends are hosting a Yard Sale fundraiser on October 1,
2011at the Seymour Center.
Ed Flowers reported that the Adult Day Health Program at the Central Orange Senior Center
has turned around. Carol Woods is assuming the bookkeeping responsibilities for the Adult Day
Health Program . Home visits are being done and he reported that currently, there are more than
20 people in the Program. He also reported that there are 2 vacancies on the Advisory
Committee, and that the chairperson had resigned.
Mary Fraser reported for the Adult Care Home and indicated that facilities are available for
those in need of help in Orange County.
The Senior Tar Heel report was made by Jeanne Suddarth and Janice Wells. They reported that
some attendees need county assistance to pay expenses of attending meetings. The next meeting
is planned for October 2011. They also reported that on-line surveys are being conducted in
legislature to provide information to legislators about community needs. Also, State Senior
Games funding has not been decided – may need corporate funding to support this project. There
was also some discussion on lack of services provided due to Medicaid dollar shortages because
of funding cuts. It was suggested that the new Health Care program may provide some help in
attaining services.
There being no further business to conduct, the meeting was adjourned at 5:10 pm.
Leo Allison
