Mary Fraser expressed a
willingness to be Vice-Chair once appointed to the Board.

Leo Allison stated that the Friends of the Senior Center for Central Orange Board of
Directors had instructed the Chair to send a letter to the County Manager asking that the
Board of County Commissioners rename the Central Orange Senior Center to honor Jerry
Passmore. He distributed a copy of the letter and draft Resolution. The Senior Care and
Friends of Central Orange boards have both approved the recommendation. Janice Tyler
reminded the Advisory Board of the recently-adopted criteria for naming Orange County
facilities. Following further discussion a motion was made by Peggy Cohn and seconded
by Janice Wells that the Advisory Board on Aging support the Resolution to rename the
Central Orange Senior Center in honor of Jerry Passmore. The motion carried
unanimously. Ms. Cohn suggested that each member receive an email copy of the
Resolution and letter of support to use in contacting Commissioners about this request.

Board members acknowledged receipt of their invitations to the 30th Anniversary
Celebration event on October 1. Over $5,000 has been pledged to support this event.
Ms. Tyler distributed the Planning Committee meeting notes and reviewed the schedule
for the evening. Nantucket Café will cater the dinner; Bell Senior Living will provide
the appetizers. Robert Seymour has agreed to serve as Master of Ceremonies. Ms. Tyler
displayed the folders distributed at the 20th Anniversary Celebration with a listing of
department staff and Advisory Board on Aging members. After discussion a motion was
made by Peggy Cohn and seconded by Heather Altman to incorporate those listings into
the program, as is the practice with the RSVP Recognition Luncheon. Motion carried.

Haryo Marsosudiro reported that the Friends of Central Orange will be hosting its
Harvest Moon Ball on October 16. This year’s music will be supplied by the Fabulous
Nomads. Last year 175 persons attended. A new fundraising event is the contra dances
on the first Friday each month. A trip to the Blue Ridge Parkway and a cruise to the
Bahamas and Key West are also being sponsored as fundraisers. The Friends Board
members continue to identify major sponsors in the community.

Steve Lackey stated that the Friends of the Seymour Center met last month to discuss
fundraising and will meet again Thursday. One fundraising option may be to establish a
patrons campaign.

Heather Altman announced that Laura Deloye, who was appointed interim project
director of the Chatham/Orange Community Resource Connection, has decided not to
continue. Discussions now center on the possible reorganization of the CRC
administrative structure.

Mary Fraser suggested that the Advisory Board on Aging place more focus on long term
care issues.
