1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br />ADVISORY BOARD ON AGING <br /> <br />Minutes <br />November 10, 2009 <br /> <br />PRESENT: Heather Altman, Jack Chestnut, Peggy Cohn, Mary Fraser, Lindsey Hazen, <br />Steve Lackey, Haryo Marsosudiro, Thelma Perkins, Fred Schroeder, Jan Wassel, Jan <br />Wells, Steve Yuhasz <br /> <br />EXCUSED: Alice Gordon <br /> <br />STAFF: Kathie Kearns, Jerry Passmore <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order by Chair Steve Lackey at the Central Orange Senior <br />Center. He introduced Lindsey Hazen as an applicant for appointment to the Advisory <br />Board. Following introductions, Chairman Lackey announced that the recent RSVP <br />Recognition Luncheon had more than 400 attendees. That afternoon he participated in a <br />meeting with a representative of the Administration on Aging and the NC Division of <br />Aging and Adult Services Director at the Central Orange Senior Center. <br /> <br />Heather Altman requested three corrections to the minutes of October 13. Those minutes <br />were approved with the noted corrections. Jerry Passmore distributed a summary of the <br />Dr. Carol Giuliani’s study of older adults and falls, conducted at both senior centers. <br />Thelma Perkins reported that the Friends of the Seymour Center are sponsoring a Crafts <br />Fair fundraiser on Saturday, November 14 from 9:00am to 3:00pm at the Center. She <br />also announced that the annual countywide Thanksgiving Dinner Celebration will be held <br />at the Central Orange Senior Center on Friday, November 20. <br /> <br />Haryo Marsosudiro reported that the Friends of the Central Orange Senior Center Harvest <br />Moon Ball fundraiser was a success with approximately 135 persons attending. Thelma <br />Perkins asked if the Central Orange Friends Board would be interested in co-sponsoring <br />events with the Seymour Friends organization. Mr. Marsosudiro offered to relay the <br />request. He also reported on the success of the Blue Ridge Parkway excursion. <br />Upcoming events include a three day trip to Myrtle Beach in early December. <br /> <br />Jerry Passmore announced that kitchen renovations are underway at the Central Orange <br />Adult Day Health program. Jack Chestnut gave a summary of current program <br />activities. Mr. Passmore added that co-locating the Day Health Program with the Senior <br />Center is one of the service innovations that impressed the Administration on Aging. Jan <br />Wassel asked about the Day Health Program’s plan once it reaches capacity. The PACE <br />programs expansion into Orange County will have an impact on that challenge. Peggy <br />Cohn asked for the percentage of Adult Day Health participants that reside in southern <br />Orange County.
