1 <br />ORANGE COUNT <br />ADVISORY BOARD ON AGING <br /> <br />Minutes <br />October 13, 2009 <br /> <br />PRESENT: Leo Allison, Heather Altman, Peggy Cohn, Mary Frazier, Steve Lackey, <br />Haryo Marsosudiro, Thelma Perkins, Fred Schroeder, Jan Wells, Steve Yuhaz <br /> <br />EXCUSED: Jan Wassel <br /> <br />STAFF: Kate Barrett, Kathie Kearns, Jerry Passmore <br /> <br />The meeting was called to order at the Seymour Center by Chair Steve Lackey. His <br />announcements included the Community Resource Connection Summit, RSVP’s <br />Recognition Luncheon, and Harvest Moon Dance sponsored by the Friends of the Senior <br />Center for Central Orange. He welcomed Mary Frazier who is interested in being <br />appointed to serve on the Advisory Board on Aging. <br /> <br />Heather Altman gave a summary of Piedmont Health Services’ PACE program, an all- <br />inclusive home care service for low-income seniors. She reported that the program, <br />initiated in Burlington, is scheduled to expand to Orange County in the near future. <br /> <br />Haryo Marsosudiro invited Board members to attend the Harvest Moon fundraiser this <br />Saturday sponsored by the Friends of the Senior Center for Central Orange. The Friends <br />are also planning a fundraiser trip to Myrtle Beach the first week of December. Their <br />annual Blue Ridge Parkway excursion will take place at the end of this month. <br /> <br />Jerry Passmore reported on behalf of the Central Orange Adult Day Health Center that <br />the plans for the kitchen renovations necessary to increase the daily attendance have been <br />finalized and the contractor should be completing work soon. He listed other <br />improvements that are scheduled for the Central Orange Senior Center. <br /> <br />Leo Allison stated that no meeting of the Sportsplex Advisory Committee had been held <br />since his last report. One issue for that Committee’s consideration is the use of the <br />grounds surrounding the Sportsplex for events, such as fishing in the pond. <br /> <br />Heather Altman reported that the September meeting of the TJCoG Area Agency on <br />Aging Advisory Council was cancelled due to a schedule conflict with a regional event. <br /> <br />Haryo Marsosudiro summarized the process by which a new Senior Lunch Program <br />caterer was selected for recommendation to the Board of County Commissioners at their <br />November 5 meeting. Jerry Passmore added that the Food Service Innovations <br />Committee was excited about the prospect of having a local caterer provide the noon <br />meals.
