<br />programs for Seymour Center may determine if issues arise from the location of the <br />Shelter. Jack Chestnut stated that IFC was looking for a site for the soup kitchen. He <br />also stated that the Advisory Board on Aging might have to issue a formal stance about <br />the location of the shelter. Mary Ann Peter stated that there should be contact numbers if <br />issues arise. Ellen Ozier-Hayes stated that the 2011 Mental Health reform might solve <br />some of the problems. <br /> <br />Jerry Passmore presented a handout concerning dental care in long term care facilities <br />and the implementation of a star rated system. The star rated system was passed in 2007. <br />Diane Henderson stated that members should write letters to legislators with concerns <br />regarding these issues. Fred Schroeder asked if other states have a similar policy in <br />place. Jack Chestnut made a motion to support the 2008 State Legislative Issues in <br />Aging with a second from Fred Schroeder. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Jerry Passmore provided the board with a handout concerning AARP’s Issues Briefing <br />and NC Coalition on Aging. He stated that mixed populations (younger mentally ill) are <br />being placed in long-term care homes. If done, there should be appropriate staff training <br />to ensure residents would be properly cared for and security of residents. <br /> <br />Mr. Passmore gave an up-date on the Master Aging Plan. He is preparing the report with <br />any work done under each first year priority to easily identify any progress on the item. <br />The draft report is being prepared and hopefully distributed at the June meeting. Mr. <br />Passmore stated that there should be a schedule of open forums to discuss and inform the <br />public about legislative issues as a MAP priority objective. Jack Chestnut requested that <br />Jill Passmore or a representative from AARP help with the public forums. Mary Ann <br />Peter stated that Alice Gordon should support this and provide feedback from the BOCC. <br />Fred Schroeder made a motion to conduct public informational forums regarding <br />legislative issues with a second from Diane Henderson. Motion carried. There was some <br />discussion what time of day to conduct these sessions. <br /> <br />Jerry Passmore recognized the retiring Advisory Board On Aging members. Jack <br />Chestnut and Mary Ann Peter stated that the board should start thinking of key people to <br />be selected to the Board. There were potential people named that the board should <br />contact regarding recruitment to the Advisory Board on Aging. There should be <br />representatives from Hillsborough and Chapel Hill. <br /> <br />Mr. Passmore gave his Director’s report. He stated that agencies should work together to <br />accomplish client’s needs. He also stated that there is a potential grant that would assist <br />in accomplishing this. He discussed the joint ADRC (Aging and Disability Resource <br />Connections) grant application being prepared between Chatham and Orange Counties. <br />This would promote connectivity concerning web sites, communication, and information <br />sharing between agencies.
