Jerry Passmore suggested that the United Way <br />look at data at the township level instead of countywide. <br /> <br />In the Senior Centers report Jerry Passmore announced that the parking lot at the <br />Sportsplex has been completed so that the construction can begin. It is hoped that the <br />Central Orange Senior Center will be completed by this time next year. A big screen <br />television has been installed in the gathering area of the Seymour Center. Mr. Passmore <br />hopes that a second big screen will be donated for the lobby that can advertise the daily <br />activity schedule. <br /> <br />At this time the Joint Session of the Aging Board and United Way Issues Team meeting <br />was adjourned. <br /> <br />Jack Chestnut convened the Advisory Board on Aging and introduced Region J Area <br />Agency on Aging Director Joan Pellettier. Board members reviewed that 2008 board <br />meeting scheduled that was mailed with the agenda. Peggy Cohn noted that the schedule <br />must be changed to delete references to the United Way Senior Issues Team Joint <br />Sessions. With that change the 2008 schedule was approved after a motion was offered <br />by Peggy Cohn and a second by Jan Wassel. Motion carried. <br /> <br />Jerry Passmore distributed a notice of upcoming state-sponsored workshops on Aging <br />and Disability Resource Centers. He stated that Department on Aging staff will be <br />attending the forum scheduled for February 22 in Raleigh. Joan Pellettier informed that <br />Board that the NC Division of Aging and Adult Services had recently received grant <br />funds to expand the number of Aging and Disability Resource “Connection” sites in <br />North Carolina beyond the two that currently exist. Ms. Pellettier explained that the goal <br />of this program is to expedite access to information. Jack Chestnut added that Carol <br />Woods had recently received a $1million grant from Duke Endowment to promote the <br />same goal. Discussion followed on the eligibility age for service from the Resource <br />Connections. <br /> <br />After correcting a grammatical error on page 2 the minutes of the November 14 meeting <br />were approved upon the motion made by Peggy Cohn and the second by Jan Wassel. <br /> <br />In his Friends of the Senior Centers report Jerry Passmore reported that both <br />organizations have successfully raised funds and now are in the process of determining <br />how they can best be spent to support the Seymour and Central Orange Center. <br /> <br />Wellness Board member Peggy Cohn reviewed the Wellness Program’s recent activities. <br />She noted that more than 200 personal fitness screenings have been conducted this Fall. <br />She announced that the Senior Wellness Clinic, co-sponsored with the UNC Geriatric <br />Evaluation Clinic, will officially begin on January 2. The clinic will provide assessment <br />and treatment planning visits with referrals to the individual’s primary care physician for <br />follow-up. Finally, she stated that the Third Annual Aging in Stride 5k had raised $500 <br />for the Wellness Program.
