1 <br /> <br />APPROVED 2/6/2018 MINUTES <br />BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br />REGULAR MEETING <br />January 23, 2018 <br />7:00 p.m. <br /> <br />The Orange County Board of Commissioners met in regular session on Tuesday, January 23, <br />2018 at 7:00 p.m. at the Whitted Building, in Hillsborough, N.C. <br /> <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS PRESENT: Chair Dorosin and Commissioners Mia Burroughs, <br />Barry Jacobs, Earl McKee, Mark Marcoplos, Renee Price and Penny Rich <br />COUNTY COMMISSIONERS ABSENT: <br />COUNTY ATTORNEYS PRESENT: John Roberts <br />COUNTY STAFF PRESENT: County Manager Bonnie Hammersley, Deputy County Manager <br />Travis Myren and Clerk to the Board Donna Baker (All other staff members will be identified <br />appropriately below) <br /> <br /> Chair Dorosin called the meeting to order at 7:04 p.m. <br /> <br />1. Additions or Changes to the Agenda <br /> <br />A motion was made by Commissioner Marcoplos, seconded by Commissioner <br />Burroughs to pull item 8-e, and move it up on the agenda between items 4 and 5. <br /> <br />VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> <br />The following items were at the Commissioners’ places: <br />- PowerPoint for Item 6-a, Mountains to Sea Trail (MST) <br />- PowerPoint for Item 6-b, Multi- Purpose County Campus <br />- White sheet: addendum to item 6c (Millhouse Road Park Site) <br />- White sheet: for Item 6-c, information letter from Mayor Hemminger <br />- Map for item 6-c <br />- White sheet: information from Commissioner Jacobs <br />- Comment for Item 8-e: public comment <br />- White sheet: MST comments from public <br />- Lavender sheet: Item 11-a, ballot for nominees for the Go Triangle Citizens Advisory <br />Committee <br /> <br />Arts Moment – 2018 Piedmont Laureate Nancy Peacock <br />2018 Piedmont Laureate Nancy Peacock has been writing since fourth grade. She is <br />largely self -taught and well mentored. Ms. Peacock is the author of the novels Life Without <br />Water (chosen as a New York Times Notable Book), Home Across the Road, and The Life and <br />Times of Persimmon Wilson, as well as the memoir and “writing-in-the-real-world” guide A <br />Broom of One’s Own: Words on Writing, Housecleaning and Life. Ms. Peacock runs writing <br />workshops and retreats for women. Her free Prompt Writing Class has been active since 2003, <br />and continues to gain in popularity. Ms. Peacock believes that telling stories, our own and those <br />we invent, is a human right that we must all claim to heal our hurt world.
