55 <br />Describe the importance of transit with regards to individuals with handicaps or disabilities: <br />For people for whom driving is not an option due to disability, it is critical that they have access to useful <br />transit services to provide them with mobility options. <br />Describe the importance of transit with regards to economic opportunity. <br />Car ownership is expensive. As a physician at UNC, I have many patients who struggle to attend critical <br />medical appointments because of their inability to get transportation to the hospital or clinic. The <br />availability of convenient, reliable transportation also impacts people's ability to access employment <br />opportunities and keep jobs once they've earned them. <br />Have you had experiences with transit or other related issues in other places that could provide beneficial <br />information to this committee? (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words) <br />Along with my daily transit ridership here, I've ridden on transit systems in communities throughout the <br />US, Europe, and Australia, and can provide useful insight not only on transit services but how transit can <br />link with other services such as bikeshare and good pedestrian accommodations to make transit use easier <br />and more feasible for people. <br />Please tell us why you would like to be on the GoTriangle Transit Advisory Committee. (Please limit <br />your response to 100 or fewer words) <br />As a daily transit rider, I have a vested interest in making sure that the region's transit agencies make their <br />customers' needs paramount. I also want to advocate for my many patients who struggle to access jobs, <br />social services, and other resources in the community due to a lack of transportation or transit options. <br />Please attach a current resume/biography with application. <br />
