Describe the importance of transit with regards to individuals with handicaps or disabilities. For some, it may be the only reliable means of getting from point to point. It seems, however, that barriers exist for a broader use by people with disabilities. The combination of timing, access and routes served seem to be largest issues. However, certain routes seem to do well with serving limited populations, e.g, elderly persons who wish to get to and from senior activities or certain retail locations. We need to broaden out these services to make them more appealing and less challenging. Describe the importance of transit with regards to economic opportunity. We can see some local impacts associated with successful transit; a few less cars, a few more dollars for people to spend as discretionary purchases rather than on their automobile, which translates to economic impact. State government employees who use the GoPass and routinely do not drive can save hundreds of dollars per month that may translate into local spending and support of our local economy. In addition, have a well - planned, managed and functional transit system is a plus to those facilities and companies looking to locate in the RTP region. This may be one of many factors that tip the region into a favorable choice for economic opportunities. (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words) With more than 10 years experience using public transit on a near daily basis, I have perspective of a person who sees what riders experience on a near daily basis on different systems. Prior to using the express bus through GoTriangle, I had experience with the former Triangle Transit Authority and getting between Chapel and Cary under the previous system. In addition, I have been and am currently a GoTriangle Ambassador.
