10 <br />Describe the importance of transit with regards to economic opportunity. <br />A strong transit system is important on multiple levels when considering economic opportunity, both in allowing individuals <br />access to job opportunities, as well as by ensuring that the Triangle is competitive on the national stage against other regions <br />so that we are able to attract the best companies to our region to provide those job opportunities. <br />When I co- chaired the citizens' committee advocating for the passage of the half -cent sales tax in support of the Orange <br />County Transit Plan in 2012, 1 had the opportunity to speak to individual across our county and help to communicate the <br />importance of transit of all types helping better the economic standing of our county for both residents who will utilize it <br />directly as well as those who will not use the system itself but will still benefit from all of the positive externalities <br />that it creates. <br />Have you had experiences with transit or other related issues in other places that could provide <br />beneficial information to this committee? (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words) <br />I travel regularly for work and have had the opportunity to experience transit systems both similar and very different from <br />the system we have here in the Triangle, including numerous transit systems both in the United States and abroad. I think <br />there are many lessons to be learned from how other communities are approaching the same problems we have. <br />Please tell us why you would like to be on the GoTriangle Transit Advisory Committee. (Please limit your <br />response to 100 or fewer words) <br />I think I have a lot to offer the committee, as a regular rider and advocate for transit ridership, and a strong background <br />in transportation and land use planning from my work in Chapel Hill, including on our Transportation and Planning Boards. <br />I also bring a unique perspective having done a good amount of work on the more technical side of transportation and <br />spatial analysis from my work in graduate school, where I focused my GIS analytics work on land use and transportation <br />issues. Finally, I very interested in public communications and public input processes, both individually and professionally, <br />and I think I can offer a lot in shaping strategies for collecting broad input from area residents. <br />Please attach a current resume /biography with application. <br />
