Blackwood, <br />919.245.2900 <br />Amanda Barringer, Wireless, NC, <br />919.741.8431 <br />1 <br />PURPOSE: To receive a presentation from a representative of Wireless, NC regarding a digital <br />evidence management proposal for the Orange County Sheriff's Office. <br />BACKGROUND: At the October 6, 2016 Board of Orange County Commissioners meeting, <br />Orange County Sheriff Charles S. Blackwood and the Board discussed the possibility of <br />equipping Sheriff's Deputies with body -worn cameras (BWC). Subsequent to the meeting, <br />various vendors of BWC met with Sheriff's Office staff about their offerings. The Sheriff's Office <br />identified four BWC models of interest and placed them into limited use by Deputies. Through <br />this pilot testing, the Deputies determined that products offered by Motorola Solutions are best <br />suited for use by the Sheriff's Office. Amanda Barringer with Wireless, NC will make a <br />presentation to the Board on Motorola's Digital Evidence Management Solutions (DEMS), which <br />includes the SI -500 Body Camera and Command Central Vault. <br />FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with receiving the presentation. <br />The current cost estimate to fully implement body -worn cameras is approximately $300,000, <br />which is proposed for inclusion in the Sheriff's 2018 -2019 proposed budget. <br />SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br />this item: <br />• GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br />The reduction of risks from vehicle /traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br />activity, substance abuse and domestic violence. <br />RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the presentation <br />and provide direction to staff. <br />
