Response to the program was <br />overwhelming. The initial class will have 32 students, an increase above the originally <br />stated goal of 25 students. In addition, another 17 residents have asked to be put on the <br />waiting list for the next class, which will either be offered in the fall or spring 2019. <br />The CGA will consist of eight sessions, with half the sessions being taught in a <br />classroom provided by the Orange County campus of Durham Technical College and <br />the other half consisting of field trips to community facilities (9 -1 -1 communications and <br />EOC, Passmore Center, Animal Services and Solid Waste). <br />The academy will begin with a presentation by Kara Millonzi of the School of <br />Government on the role of county government and how counties fit into the <br />intergovernmental system. <br />County departments represented include: <br />Aging <br />Animal Services <br />Board of County Commissioners <br />Elections <br />Emergency Services (9 -1 -1 communications) <br />Environment, Agriculture and Parks and Recreation <br />Health Department <br />Planning <br />Register of Deeds <br />Social Services <br />An Equal Opportunity /Affirmative Action Employer <br />www.orangecountync.gov <br />
