How does funding this
program add value to the community? (250 words OR LESS)
The Chapel Hill - Carrboro community is one where education is highly valued and
where success in school is a priority for our children. Many of our families do not
read with their children, a situation that will adversely affect these children and
impede their path to academic success. The reasons are varied: from not realizing
this is a priority to not knowing how to read themselves. FRP addresses these
issues to get our families reading together.
x) Describe what would happen if requested funding is not awarded at all or if a reduced
allocation is recommended.
A reduced allocation would allow for fewer sessions (the cost per session is
approximately $250). If funding is not awarded, this program would not go into the
low income neighborhoods where families who would benefit most from this literacy
initiative live.
y) Include any other pertinent information.
N/A
PROGRAM INFORMATION 1/31/2017 10:54:56 AM Page 20 of 26
