Action Items for 2017 -2018 <br />History <br />An Orange County baseline community food assessment created in 2016 helped the Orange <br />County Food Council identify 2 focus areas to strengthen our local food system: Food Access <br />and Local Food Economy. These two focus areas became the council's first workgroups. The <br />workgroup priority areas are a direct result of feedback received during two community forums <br />held by the Orange County Food Council in February and March of 2017. A diverse group of <br />Orange County food system stakeholders attended these forums including: local and state <br />elected officials, practitioners, non - profit agencies, county and town representatives, and <br />general community members. The top 3 priorities were defined and transformed by workgroup <br />members and partner organizations at the first official workgroup meetings in April 2017. <br />Food Access Workgroup Mission <br />• For all Orange County residents to have access to healthy, affordable, local food and for <br />there to be equitable participation in the Orange County food system <br />• To raise awareness about Orange County food access and insecurity issues, efforts, <br />programs, and policies <br />• Develop and post a comprehensive resource database that includes information about <br />organizations, non - profits, county /town offices, and other entities with programs that <br />address food access issues <br />• Advocate for policies and actions in Orange County (municipalities and county) that <br />address food access <br />Definitions <br />• Priority = long term goals and actions of the workgroup <br />• Current actions = short term actions that help the workgroup achieve the long term <br />mission <br />• Timing = ideal timeline for starting and completing actions <br />• Outcome /Measurement = how the workgroup tracks and measures progress <br />Orange County Food Coun( Food Access Action Plan <br />
