29
funding already in place (from Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough) to fund the
coordinator position at 20 hours /week through June 2018.
Our Request
We look forward to talking with you about the potential for your municipality's
participation in establishing the Orange County Food Council as a multijurisdictional
project, starting in the next fiscal year, funded according to the same formula used
for the Project to End Homelessness.
In recognition of the multi - pronged action plan the Council is developing and the
activities we are currently carrying out, our preference is for funding of a full -time
coordinator position. This is based on what we know of the workload of the current
coordinator who currently works part -time. The County has said that the expected
cost of a full -time coordinator (including salary + benefits) would be between
$65,000 and $70,000.
Supported by a full -time coordinator, the food council is poised to have significant
impact on the wellbeing of our community. We all need each other to manifest
prosperous and equitable communities where the farm -food economy is thriving
and everyone has enough fresh, local food to eat. We look forward to learning your
thoughts on whether and how Chapel Hill, Carrboro, and Hillsborough could become
a essential partners in this project.
