139
Michael Harvey
From: Nishith Trivedi
Sent: Thursday, December 07, 2017 3:17 PM
To: Michael Harvey; Tom Altieri; Craig Benedict
Subject: Settler's Point Field Notes
Attachments: Settler's Point NC- 86.pdf, NC -86 at I -40 South View.JPG; NC -86 at I -40 North View.JPG
FYI,
In preparation for tomorrow afternoon's meeting, I went out to NC -86 south of 1 -40 to do some field inspections. I used
a measure wheel to gage the distances to certain key points. Attached are my field notes that I will be transferring to an
aerial map. Here is a summary of my findings.
I do not see how a u turn is possible along this stretch of the road with cars and trucks going 45 miles per hour (speed
limit) or more along 760 feet (from exit ramp) of road before they start curving for another 460 feet as they hit the S
curve at the same speed. All of this going uphill for those going south and downhill for those going north. The right of
way gradually decreased from 100' to 60' where the initial curve starts. Attached are pictures I took from the street
showing the North (100' row) and South (less row) views.
Hope this helps.
Sincerely,
Nishith Trivedi
Transportation Planner
Orange County Planning Department
131 W.
