GOTRIANGLE TRANSIT CITIZEN ADVISORY COMMITTEE APPLICATION
The purpose of this committee is to advise the GoTriangle Board of Trustees (hereinafter "Board ")
on current and emerging issues associated with planning and providing a high - quality transit
network that serves the needs of our entire community.
Please complete the information below to apply to serve on the Advisory Committee.
Name: Jason Baker
Address: 124 Justice Street
City: Chapel Hill
State /ZIP: NC 27516
*County: Orange
*(Please note that you must reside in Wake, Durham or Orange County to be appointed to the
Committee.)
Home phone: N/A
Cell phone: 919- 442 -8278
Education: BA Political Science, UNC Chapel Hill; Master of Geospatial Information Science, NCSU
Current employment: Red Hat (Marketing / Community Management)
Licenses held:
References (limit of 3):
1 believe both of the current GoTriangle board members from Orange County / Chapel Hill (Barry Jacobs / Michael
Parker) are familiar with my work on transit issues, as would be past members Ed Harrison and Bernadette Pelissier
if current members shouldn't be listed.
Do you use public transit? If so, how often?
I am a daily rider of the GoTriangle CRX between Chapel Hill and Raleigh, and a frequent user of Chapel Hill Transit as well.
I have been using both Chapel Hill Transit and GoTriangle (Triangle Transit) extensively for over fifteen years.
Would you be willing to try public transit?
Yes.
Describe the importance of transit with regards to affordable housing and land use planning.
As the Triangle continues to grow at a rapid pace, our only hope for maintaining our region as a place which is both
environmentally sustainable and affordable to people at all income levels is to plan for a future where automobile
ownership is truly optional. An affordability model for our region must consider housing and transportation costs together,
and we must concentrate the development of future housing along transit corridors to maximize its accessibility.
Describe the importance of transit with regards to individuals with handicaps or disabilities.
For many people with disabilities, public transit is their only viable option for transportation. In addition to ensuring our
general services are as accessible as possible, and supplemented with excellent paratransit service, I think it's critical
that we consider the needs of people with disabilities as we do station planning for our future rail service, to ensure that
we build places where one can meet all of their basic needs in short distances without the need for an automobile.
