ie Describe the importance of transit with regards to economic opportunity. We have put people into an expensive hole when it comes to getting to work. Most good jobs are in urban centers or office parks, surrounded by expensive housing options. This has driven people father and farther out, and the search for affordable housing. However, the costs of commuting, and the need for families to own multiple cars eat up all or most of any perceived savings, also taking away their time to spend with families or to engage in training to improve their careers. Basically, people are locked into a daily grind of hour plus commutes burning their savings in fuel and auto mainten, Transit, and transit oriented development offers a glimmer of hope for people in this situation, and it also brings then Have you had experiences with transit or other related issues in other places that could provide beneficial information to this committee? (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words) As a regular transit commuter, I have seen first hand the good and bad of what GoTriangle currently offers. In my work doing outreach at my place of work, I have heard the reasons people do not use transit. I have also watched, in frustration, as GoTriangle has missed out on some opportunities to take advantage of new transit riders and gain ridership. One example is the now retired Johnston County route. GoTriangle rant it just like all their other routes, but they (in my opinion) missed out on an opportunity in growing a strong, grass roots base of Choice riders while that line was run. Please tell us why you would like to be on the GoTriangle Transit Advisory Committee. (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words) I am passionate about transit. I have volunteered for GoTriangle at events they have hosted at IBM. I have particip� I have worked 1:1 with people, helping them try transit, and encouraged them to give it a try.
