21
be physically active, and participate in the civic life of their community. The dividend hours that can be re-
deployed as a result of the DOLRT coming on line will further help our transit - dependent neighbors by
allowing more frequent headways and extended hours.
Here's a column I wrote in the News and Observer in support of transit (March 2017):
http: / /www.newsobserver.com /news /local /community /chapel -hill- news /chn-
ol2inion /article138202918.htm1 ?utm content= buffer39525&utm medium= social &utm source = twitter.com
&utm campaign= buffer
Here's another column I co- authored in the Carrboro Citizen (September 2012) about the social justice case
for transit:
http: / /www.ibibho.orLy/carrborocitizen /main /2012 /09 /27 /the- social - iustice -of- public- transit
Have you had experiences with transit or other related issues in other places that could provide
beneficial information to this committee? (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words)
I have participated in extensive racial equity training. I conduct community -based research with an anti- racist
lens. I have training and expertise in community organizing and engagement. I've been involved in advocating
for improved transit service with communities of color in Chapel Hill- Carrboro for several years. As of
November 6, 2017, I've used bike shares in nine cities and seen how they connect to transit systems. I
participate in place - making trainings and have led `Jane's Walks' in Carrboro and Chapel Hill to discuss place -
making and community spaces. I've attended InterCity visits that provided insight into city connectivity
(Bloomington, IN; Athens, GA).
Please tell us why you would like to be on the GoTriangle Transit Advisory Committee. (Please limit
your response to 100 or fewer words)
There are many benefits to public transit — it's safer, it's healthier (those who ride transit walk more), it
promotes social engagement, it promotes equity, it's good for the environment, it's more fun (you can read,
talk, listen to music and not concentrate on driving). I want more people to be able to experience this. I want
to help shape our regional transit system guided by Enrique Penalosa's idea that maximum investment in the
least advantaged will be the most advantageous for all. I feel that serving on the Transit Citizen Advisory
Committee is one step I can take to accomplish this.
Please attach a current resume /biography with application.
