10
Describe the importance of transit with regards to economic opportunity.
A strong transit system is important on multiple levels when considering economic opportunity, both in allowing individuals
access to job opportunities, as well as by ensuring that the Triangle is competitive on the national stage against other regions
so that we are able to attract the best companies to our region to provide those job opportunities.
When I co- chaired the citizens' committee advocating for the passage of the half -cent sales tax in support of the Orange
County Transit Plan in 2012, 1 had the opportunity to speak to individual across our county and help to communicate the
importance of transit of all types helping better the economic standing of our county for both residents who will utilize it
directly as well as those who will not use the system itself but will still benefit from all of the positive externalities
that it creates.
Have you had experiences with transit or other related issues in other places that could provide
beneficial information to this committee? (Please limit your response to 100 or fewer words)
I travel regularly for work and have had the opportunity to experience transit systems both similar and very different from
the system we have here in the Triangle, including numerous transit systems both in the United States and abroad. I think
there are many lessons to be learned from how other communities are approaching the same problems we have.
Please tell us why you would like to be on the GoTriangle Transit Advisory Committee. (Please limit your
response to 100 or fewer words)
I think I have a lot to offer the committee, as a regular rider and advocate for transit ridership, and a strong background
in transportation and land use planning from my work in Chapel Hill, including on our Transportation and Planning Boards.
I also bring a unique perspective having done a good amount of work on the more technical side of transportation and
spatial analysis from my work in graduate school, where I focused my GIS analytics work on land use and transportation
issues. Finally, I very interested in public communications and public input processes, both individually and professionally,
and I think I can offer a lot in shaping strategies for collecting broad input from area residents.
Please attach a current resume /biography with application.
