Franklin Street, Chapel Hill, NC 27516 <br />www.visitchapelhill.org (919) 968-2060 <br />A Division of Orange County, NC <br /> <br /> <br /> <br />December 8, 2017 <br />To: Board of Orange County Commissioners <br />c/o Orange County Clerk’s Office <br />From: Laurie Paolicelli, Director, Visitors Bureau <br />Re: Town of Chapel Hill’s Nomination for Visitors Bureau’s Board <br /> <br />The Chapel Hill/Orange County Visitors Bureau’s By-laws currently includes a seat for an elected <br />representative from the Town of Chapel Hill. <br />At its December work session, Mayor Pam Hemminger appointed Chapel Hill Town Councilwoman, Rachel <br />Schaevitz, to serve on the board of the Visitors Bureau. <br />With the Board of Orange County Commissioners approval, Rachel Schaevitz will serve as the new <br />representative for the Visitors Bureau Board, beginning in January 2018. <br />Rachel comes to Chapel Hill from Philadelphia, where she earned her Ph.D. in Media & Communication from <br />Temple University, focusing on using media and the humanities as vehicles for social change. <br />While cinema has been her primary focus, with a background in independent film production as well as an <br />MFA in Film Studies from Boston University and BFA in Film Production from New York University, she is an <br />art lover at heart and looks forward to helping local partners plan events across the humanities. <br />Ms. Schaevitz has expressed a keen interest in sustainable energy and being thoughtful about how we invest <br />in transit and development. <br />We are confident Ms. Schaevitz’s connection to the University, her commitment to the arts and sustainable <br />development will be a strong contributor to tourism for Orange County. <br />We look forward to having Ms. Schaevitz on the Visitors Bureau Board. <br />Laurie Paolicelli <br />Director, Visitors Bureau <br /> <br /> <br />6
