Establishing a County Government Academy for Orange County Residents <br /> The Board will consider approving the development of a County Government Academy <br /> (CGA) as a series of classes held each spring and fall to educate residents about the many <br /> services and responsibilities of Orange County Government and thereby benefit Orange <br /> County by creating a pool of informed residents who would be more likely to serve on one of <br /> the many Orange County volunteer boards and advisory committees. <br /> Commissioner Jacobs and Commissioner Price both wanted to pull this item to <br /> acknowledge this proposed academy. Commissioner Jacobs said the County used to have a <br /> "County Day" in which students would come in and shadow department heads, hold mock <br /> board meetings, etc. in order to learn how local government works. Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget Amendment#3 <br /> The Board considered approving budget and school capital project ordinance <br /> amendments for fiscal year 2017-18. <br /> Commissioner Price said she had questions about the Food Council budget <br /> amendment. <br /> Bonnie Hammersley said the Food Council was going to make a presentation at the <br /> Assemblies of Government (AOG) meeting, requesting to mirror the model of the Partnership <br /> to End Homelessness, but the meeting was cancelled. She said these are monies to carry the <br /> Food Council over to the end of the fiscal year and give them the opportunity to make their <br /> case to the BOCC during the budget process. <br /> A motion was made by Commissioner Price, seconded by Commissioner Jacobs to <br /> approve the budget and school capital project ordinance amendments for fiscal year 2017-18. <br /> VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> a. Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget Amendment#3 <br /> The Board approved budget and school capital project ordinance amendments for fiscal <br /> year 2017-18 to Department on Aging; Department of Social Services; Visitors Bureau; <br /> Orange Public Transportation; School Capital Project Ordinances — Orange County <br /> Schools; and Outside Agency— Orange County Food Council. <br /> c.
