He said category 2 contains changes like the
Gateway Station adjustment, where GoTriangle comes to the BOCC for its feedback. He
asked if Board of County Commissioners would submit changes for category 2 via Travis
Myren. He said Category 1 changes include addition or deletion of stations, and all entities
have to vote for category one changes. He said GoTriangle will return to the BOCC on
December 12 for a vote on the additional station at Blackwell and Mangum Streets in Durham.
Matthew Clark presented this portion of the PowerPoint:
Proposed Engineering Updates
• The estimated cost of the proposed Gateway station update is $8 million.
• The estimated cost of the proposed DPAC station addition is $2.5 million.
• The purpose of the Gateway station update is to provide more opportunity for economic
development in Orange County.
• The purpose of the DPAC station addition is to provide people in Orange and Durham
Counties with easy access to the DPAC, Durham Bulls Athletic Park, and other center
city destinations.
• Both Engineering updates are contained within the budget which is set at around $2.47
billion
Commissioner McKee asked if the $2.47 billion budget includes the long-term loans, as
he understood the total cost to be over $3 billion.
Matthew Clark said that is not correct, and the capital costs of the project are $2.47
billion. He said financing costs are not included in the capital costs.
Commissioner McKee said citizens are not being presented with an honest portrayal of
the total costs of the project.
Commissioner Jacobs asked if GoTriangle could provide the BOCC with a report about
how GoTriangle has engaged Durham Tech and the Orange County campus on providing
jobs.
Matthew Clark said he is spearheading a workforce development partnership with
Durham Tech and several other partners.
Commissioner Jacobs asked if something could be brought in writing to the BOCC on
December 12th
Matthew Clark said yes.
