Resolution of Approval —Conservation Easement for Center Stream Farm <br /> 2 Addition; and Approval of Budget Amendment #3-A <br /> 3 The Board considered approving a resolution for the purchase of and acceptance by <br /> 4 Orange County of an agricultural conservation easement for the Center Stream Farm addition, <br /> 5 authorize the Chair to sign and approve Budget Amendment#3-A. <br /> 6 Commissioner Jacobs said he wanted to pull this item to salute to their commitment to <br /> 7 agricultural conservation easements. <br /> 8 <br /> 9 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Burroughs to <br /> 10 approve a resolution for the purchase of and acceptance by Orange County of an agricultural <br /> 11 conservation easement for the Center Stream Farm addition, authorize the Chair to sign and <br /> 12 approve Budget Amendment#3-A. <br /> 13 <br /> 14 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 15 <br /> 16 f. Establishing a County Government Academy for Orange County Residents <br /> 17 The Board will consider approving the development of a County Government Academy <br /> 18 (CGA) as a series of classes held each spring and fall to educate residents about the many <br /> 19 services and responsibilities of Orange County Government and thereby benefit Orange County <br /> 20 by creating a pool of informed residents who would be more likely to serve on one of the many <br /> 21 Orange County volunteer boards and advisory committees. <br /> 22 <br /> 23 Commissioner Jacobs and Commissioner Price both wanted to pull this item to <br /> 24 acknowledge this proposed academy. Commissioner Jacobs said the County used to have a <br /> 25 "County Day" in which students would come in and shadow department heads, hold mock <br /> 26 board meetings, etc. in order to learn how local government works. He said he would <br /> 27 encourage getting students involved again. <br /> 28 <br /> 29 A motion was made by Commissioner Jacobs, seconded by Commissioner Burroughs to <br /> 30 approve the development of a County Government Academy (CGA) as a series of classes held <br /> 31 each spring and fall to educate residents about the many services and responsibilities of <br /> 32 Orange County Government and thereby benefit Orange County by creating a pool of informed <br /> 33 residents who would be more likely to serve on one of the many Orange County volunteer <br /> 34 boards and advisory committees. <br /> 35 <br /> 36 VOTE: UNANIMOUS <br /> 37 <br /> 38 b. Fiscal Year 2017-18 Budget Amendment#3 <br /> 39 The Board considered approving budget and school capital project ordinance <br /> 40 amendments for fiscal year 2017-18. <br /> 41 <br /> 42 Commissioner Price said she had questions about the Food Council budget <br /> 43 amendment. <br /> 44 Bonnie Hammersley said the Food Council was going to make a presentation at the <br /> 45 Assemblies of Government (AOG) meeting, requesting to mirror the model of the Partnership to <br /> 46 End Homelessness, but the meeting was cancelled. She said these are monies to carry the <br /> 47 Food Council over to the end of the fiscal year and give them the opportunity to make their case <br /> 48 to the BOCC during the budget process. <br /> 49 <br />
