1 <br /> ORANGE COUNTY <br /> BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS <br /> ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT <br /> Meeting Date: December 4, 2017 <br /> Action Agenda <br /> Item No. 4-b <br /> SUBJECT: Fire Chiefs Association Update <br /> DEPARTMENT: Emergency Services <br /> ATTACHMENT(S): INFORMATION CONTACT: <br /> PowerPoint Presentation Susanna Schmitt Williams, President of <br /> Orange County Fire Chiefs <br /> Association / Fire Chief— Carrboro, <br /> 919-918-7349 <br /> Dinah Jeffries, Emergency Services <br /> Director, 919-245-6123 <br /> PURPOSE: To receive the annual Fire Chiefs Association update, which will address the topics <br /> of communications, volunteers, training needs, and relationship with Durham Technical <br /> Community College. <br /> BACKGROUND: Annually the BOCC and Fire Chiefs Association have met so the Fire Chiefs <br /> Association can provide an annual update on fire and emergency services to the Board through <br /> a PowerPoint presentation and discussion to further address issues and needs. The <br /> presentation is an opportunity for the Board to ask questions of the Fire Chiefs Association. <br /> Historically this discussion has occurred as a separate meeting; however this year it has been <br /> scheduled as part of a regular Board meeting. <br /> FINANCIAL IMPACT: There is no financial impact associated with receiving an update from <br /> the Fire Chiefs Association. <br /> SOCIAL JUSTICE IMPACT: The following Orange County Social Justice Goal is applicable to <br /> this item: <br /> • GOAL: CREATE A SAFE COMMUNITY <br /> The reduction of risks from vehicle/traffic accidents, childhood and senior injuries, gang <br /> activity, substance abuse and domestic violence. <br /> The Fire Chiefs Association and their respective departments are committed to continuing to <br /> provide safe communities in Orange County as it relates to fire and emergency services. The <br /> information presented will inform the Board as it makes decisions on community safety. <br /> RECOMMENDATION(S): The Manager recommends that the Board receive the update and <br /> provide comments to the Fire Chiefs Association. <br />
