a <br />Middle College High School at Durham Technical Community College <br />FACT SHEET <br />What is MCHS? <br />MCHS is a magnet school, accepting students from Durham, Orange, and Chapel Hill-Garrboro City schools. Located <br />on the campus of Durham Technical Community College (DTCC), it is for 11'h and 12'" graders who would like to <br />accelerate their course of study by taking honors level high school courses, and college credit. Students may <br />graduate from high school with a year or more of college transfer credit. <br />What does MCHS offer? <br />• A unique and non-traditional academic environment-The school is situated on the campus of DTCC, providing <br />a more open-campus and "collegiate" atmosphere, as students take their college classes with DTCC faculty and <br />DTCC students. <br />• Anon-traditional schedule-High school classes are from 12:30-5:30 PM, and are taught on a block schedule. <br />College classes are offered at different times of the morning, afternoon, and evening.. <br />• Small enrol/ment-Maximum enrollment is 200 students. <br />• Flexibility-Each student shall have a great deal of flexibility in creating his/her course of study. <br />• Durham Tech. G.C, Students will have access to all DTCC facilities and services (libraries, labs, clubs, dining <br />services etc.) <br />• Associate Degree-Students may work toward an Associate Degree while at MCHS. <br />• Industry Certification-Students may acquire certification infields ranging from construction to computer <br />networking to health care and more. <br />Enrollment <br />MCHS enrolled only juniors for its first year. It began the year with 38, of which 36 will return for 2006-07. As of <br />6/21/06, acceptance letters have been sent to another 35 students.
