' <br />Durham, NC 27705 (Orange County) <br />Re: Transition Zone Ammendment for University Station <br />I note with regret the Planning Commission's action on this <br />matter. I fully appreciate the Commission's preference for a <br />centrally orchestrated development over helter- skelter <br />construction, but I submit that these are not the only alternatives, It <br />is also possible to maintain altogether the rural character of the <br />area that lies between Hillsborough, Chapel Hill and Durham (of <br />which the proposed University Station Transition Area represents a <br />major portion). Approval of the Universitry Station project will <br />inevitably transform this tri- community area into another <br />megalopolis, with only scattered small parks to remind our <br />grandchildren of what what once was and might have been. <br />It has taken years to develop a County -wide land use plan, The ink is <br />not yet dry and already this major waiver (which is what is <br />entailed) is being sought. If you concede it, do you really doubt that <br />much else of the Plan will withstand developers' assaults? <br />I urge you to remain the responsible stewards of our County that you <br />have been, and preserve what remains to us of our heritage. <br />
