Conum SSion for Women <br />Box 8181 • 110 North Churton Street Hillsborough, NC 27278 <br />PROCLAMATION <br />WHEREAS, on August 26, 1920; the 19th Amendment to the <br />C.onstitution.of the United States was ratified; and <br />WHEREAS, the amendment reads as follows: <br />"The right of citizens of the Unites States to vote <br />shall not be denied or abridged by the United States <br />or by any state on account of sex. "; and <br />WHEREAS, the power of the vote is the gateway to continued <br />improvements in the status of women, and has the potential <br />for especially significant impact in this "Year of the. <br />Woman;" and <br />WHEREAS, the Orange County Commission for Women advises the <br />citizens and-the Board of Commissioners of orange County of <br />the status.of women in Orange County; and <br />.
