ORANGE COUNTY COMMISSIONERS
P.O. Box 8181
HILLSBOROUGII, N.C.
Moses Carey, Jr.
27278
Alice M. Gordon August 31, 1992
Stephen H. Halkiotis
Verla C. lnsko
Don Willhoit
Honorable Ken Broun, Mayor
Town of Chapel Hill
306 N. Columbia street
Chapel Hill, NC 27514
Dear Ken:
U Q -/l-92
At the August 18, 1992 County Commissioners' Meeting the
Board approved a request from the County Cable TV Citizen
Advisory Committee to explore the possibilities of.working•
with the Town of Chapel Hill during your cable TV refranchis_,
ing process. since both jurisdictions are served by the same
cable system, American Television and Communications
Corporation ("ATC"), dialogue between the Town and County
would help identify common interests.
We realize the Town Council has held an initial public
hearing to receive citizen comments on cable TV concerns and
requested proposals from cable consultants. We do not want
to alter your current refranchising process, but feel
representatives from the Town and County Cable Committees
should begin discussions to determine if there is shared
interest in working together and to consider possible methods
of County participation in your refranchising process. The
Commissioners and Cable Committee believe franchise
requirements developed by the Town may impact the County's
negotiations with ATC since your new cable franchise will be
in effect in December 1994 and our -new agreement with the -
cable company will begin in February 1996.
Again, we encourage exploratory discussions between the
two cable committees. We also hope the Town and County
will continue joint dialogue regarding cable issues after
both franchise agreements have been renewed.
MC /ltc
Sincerely,
Moses Carey, Chairman
Orange County Board of Commissioners
YOU COUNT IN ORANGE COUNTY !
732 -8181
968 -4501
688 -7331
227 -2031
644 -3004 (Fax)
C "
