_.. <br />:W. <br />- - - <br />.. <br />...rte.,- .: —�_. .. <br />.... ��: <br />_ .. _....�. �.. <br />In the fall of 189, I was the teaching assistant for the measured drawings course which prepared <br />two sets of drawings for the Historic American Buildings Survey. I also presented lectures and <br />demonstrations of drafting, measuring techniques, and use of surveying equipment. I helped <br />prepare a grant for training Chinese craftsmen in restoration techniques by using a hands-on case <br />study of stabilizing and restoring a temple. In the spring of 1990, as teaching assistant for the <br />documentation survey course, I reviewed students' work and taught them to use a computer <br />program I had developed as part of my thesis. <br />1989 Summer Intern <br />Historic District Commission, Village of Phoenix and Town of Schroeppel, NY <br />During a summer internship funded by a grant from the New York State Council on the Arts, I <br />assisted a historic commission by preparing a district nomination of the downtown area. I wrote <br />the historic overview for the entire town and compiled information on each structure in the <br />downtown area; and, on my own initiative, I did a reconnaissance survey of the entire village and <br />wrote architectural descriptions of the significant structures. <br />1985 to 1988 Project Assistant II <br />Andrus Gerontology Center, University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA <br />The Associate Dean asked me to help him with his research grant and I took charge of its <br />administration, technical aspects, and final products. I was responsible for managing the 18 -month <br />budget of $100,000. This included record keeping, preparing purdiase orders, reconciling <br />expenses, hiring student workem and processing personnel fc=Ls. I flew to Washington, D.C., <br />several times to train the Association for Gerontology in Higher Education staff and upgrade my <br />computer program for accessing the information on gerontology programs. As manager of the all <br />data collection, entry and analysis, I worked closely with the principal investigators to develop <br />questionnaires. I was an editor of the National Directory of Gerontology Instruction in Higher <br />Education, based on our survey of 3,000 accredited colleges and universities. <br />After the project just described, we undertook as second research grant and my position was <br />upgraded to reflect the higher level of responsibility I actually exercised. I was in charge of <br />mailings to 1,000 members of four national associations. I compiled tabular and statistical data, <br />and used desk -top publishing to prepare camera -ready copy for it. <br />1984 to 1985 Senior Department Secretary <br />National Policy Center on Employment and Retirement, <br />University of Southern California, Los Angeles, CA <br />I managed the office of a research unit funded by an endowment and through federal and private <br />grants- I prepared purchase orders and check requests for expenditures and reconciled four <br />different accounts, totalling over $350,000. 1 supervised student workers and processed personnel <br />paperwork for four professional staff and five research assistants. I typed reports and grant <br />applications, and helped prepare a book based on papers presented at a NATO - sponsored <br />conference which we helped organize. <br />1981 & 1982 Summer Intern <br />Department of Restoration, Old Salem, Inc., Winston - Salem, NC <br />The first summer, I organized architectural drawings of properties in the district and made a <br />catalog of samples of paint used on the museum buildings. Using information from an <br />archeological investigation, I drew reconstruction drawings of a barn. I prepared text and <br />Photographic materials for information boxes. I designed a large display using plans and models <br />to demonstrate the evolution of a historic building. I participated in long -range planning and <br />prepared slides for presentations. <br />
