) I
B. RAW WATER TRANSN11SSION
(No projects programmed during the 5 -year CIB period.)
C. WATER FILTRATION
C -1. Water Plant Up rade and Expansion - The Jones Ferry Road
Filtration Plant will be expanded from its present capacity of
12.5 to 15 million gallons per day (mgd). Peak day demand for
treated water exceeded 11.5 mgd during 1991. Additional
capacity will be provided with the construction of new filters,
and will allow the progressive upgrade and improvement of
existing filters.
D. FINISHED WATER PUMPING
D--2. Smith Level Road Booster Pum - Construction of a finished
water booster pump station along smith Level Road near Dogwood
Acres will improve fire flows and water pressure in the
southern portion of OWASA's service area, especially in
Heritage Hills.
E. FINISHED WATER STORAGE
E -1. 0.5 Million Gallon Tank Near Smith Level Road and U.S. 15 -501 -
Design of a new elevated storage tank at OWASA's 5.1 -acre site
near Starpoint. It is expected that additional storage
capacity will be needed to provide adequate flows and pressures
under the range of demand conditions associated with Chapel
Hill's Small Area Plan for this vicinity. Timing and scope of
the project may be modified per recommendations of an
engineering analysis now underway of OWASA's water distribution
system.
E -2. 1.0 Million Gallon Tank in Northern Pressure District -
Property acquisition for an additional storage tank site needed
to provide adequate flows and pressures for development
anticipated in urban transition (northern) areas designated by
Carrboro and Chapel Hill. Timing and scope of this project may
be modified per recommendations of the distribution system
analysis now underway.
E -4. 1.0 Million Gallon Tank in Cameron Avenue vicinity - Property
acquisition, design, and construction of new elevated tank to
replace the existing undersized structure at Wilson Court.
Additional capacity is needed to provide adequate flows and
pressures to support continued development of the UNC Central
Campus. As with the other proposed storage tanks, the timing
and scope of this project may be modified by results of the
soon to be completed distribution system analysis.
