Each of these fees was adopted by the Board of Health at a
rate consistent with the current fee structure.
The total estimated annual increased revenue from Environmental
Health fees as recommended is estimated to be just under $32,000.
This estimate may perhaps be low, in that it is based on the units
of service provided in 1990 -91. The recent upturn in building
activity will likely increase the amount of actual revenue.
A complete description of each of the services as outlined in Table
2 is included in the Appendix.
COMPARISON TO SURROUNDING COUNTIES
The fees for each of the surrounding counties, including Alamance,
Caswell, Chatham, Durham, Person and Wake are shown in Table 3. In
some cases, such as operations permit in Durham County, or swimming
pool inspections in Wake County, the scope of the inspections in
these counties is different than the service provided in Orange
County, making a direct comparison less meaningful.
As can be seen, although the fees vary from county to county, the
fees as proposed in this report are in line with those fees charged
by other counties.
