The County has provided the Air Ambulance Paramedics for
the program. The Air Ambulance has proven beneficial to both the
Hospital and the County EMS Services by providing scene response.
The Hospital dispatches the helicopter to accident scenes and
residential emergencies upon request of any responding EMS Unit.
This service is extremely beneficial in expediting the transport of
severely traumatized patients.
Each year, the UNC Hospitals have fully reimbursed the County for
all expenses incurred to support this program. The County is also
reimbursed $6,000 annually for the overhead costs of administering
the program. The new contract is based on actual cost reimbursement
for seven (7) full time paramedics and one (1) part time position.
The hospital is requesting an additional paramedic position, to be
fully funded by the Hospitals, be added to the permanent staff. The
current contract provides only six (6) full time paramedic positions.
The Hospital has established the seventh Adult Transport Team;
consisting of a Paramedic and Nurse. The nurse's position has been
established and approved by the Hospital, and the seventh paramedic
position requested in this contract will complete the team.
The contractual stipulations have been agreed upon by the Director of
Carolina Air Care and the Director of Emergency Management Services,
h tract signed by the Executive Director of the UNC
and t e con
Hospitals.
