Ahrendsen
City of Durham
Department of Transportation
101 City Hall Plaza
Durham, N.C. 27701
SUBJECT:' CLARIFICATION ON R -2630 IN DRAFT 1993 -97 TIP -
Dear Mark:.
At the June 8 TAC meeting on the Draft 1993 -97 TIP, it
was requested that Orange County's 1991-request be included
since there has been no change in the position of the Board
of County Commissioners. There is, however, a point of
clarification that needs to be made regarding a project in
Orange County's 1991 TIP request.
Project R -2630, Durham Northwest Loop (also known as Eno
Drive), was recommended for deletion in the 1991 request.
This was a case of mistaken identity. It was confused with
the Durham Outer Loop as originally proposed in the Durham -
Chapel Hill- Carrboro Thoroughfare Plan. This was a proposal
to which Orange County was strongly opposed.
The Orange County Commissioners received an update on
R -2630 on April 21, 1992 from DOT and H.W. Lochner officials
and voiced their support for.the project. Their support,
however, was conditioned upon "Eno Drive following the
thoroughfare plan alignment (corridor A2 in the corridor
study currently underway) east and south of the Eno River.
The County Commissioners were concerned that the other
alignment (corridor Al) west and north of the river would
negatively impact areas that were environmentally sensitive.
Sincerely,
C__Q &2,1L
R.
