I
O R A N G E C O U N T Y
BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS
ACTION AGENDA ITEM ABSTRACT
Meeting Date: June 29, 1992
Action Agenda
Item #
SUBJECT: TRANSPORTATION IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM (TIP) ISSUES
DEPARTMENT: PLANNING PUBLIC HEARING Yes _x No
ATTACHMENT(S):
- 6/26/92 FAX to Bell
6/17/92 Letter to Ahr_endsen
6/16/92 FAX to Bell
6/17/92 Memo to Gordon
INFORMATION CONTACT: Gene Bell
Ext. 2589
TELEPHONE NUMBERS:
Hillsborough - 732 -8181
Durham - 688 -7331
Mebane - 227 -2031
Chapel Hill - 967 -9251
PURPOSE: To consider two transportation - related items as
contained in the attached documentation from
Commissioner Gordon and Planner Gene Bell.
Commissioner Gordon has requested that this item be
added for consideration under the consent agenda.
BACKGROUND: Due to the short time frame for the submission of
local TIP requests to NCDOT this year, Orange County's
1991 request was re- submitted. Several concerns
appear to be outstanding. These include:
(1) In the 1991 - request Eno Drive was confused with
the previously proposed (but now deleted) Durham
Outer Loop. A letter of clarification (attached)
on this was sent to Durham officials responsible
for compiling the urban area TIP.
(2) The portion of I -85 east of Hillsborough lies in
the DCHC Urban Area and specific TIP improvements
were requested for it by the TAC. Commissioner
Gordon has asked if the Board might want to
consider requesting similar improvements for the
Orange County- section of I -85 west of the DCHC
area. Documentation on these improvements is
included as attachments.
(3) NCDOT, Town of Hillsborough, and County staff are
to meet July 13 to discuss the widening project.
Staff can reiterate Board concerns that BMP's be
installed in conjunction with the project.
RECOMMENDATION: As the Board decides.
