CITIZENS
P.O. Box 1561
AGAINST S ITE
dugh, N.C. 27278
June 16, 1992
Dear neighbor,
Much has happened since you last heard from CASE.
6-0?9 - ?0Z
L.
* ** The LSC has called a meeting for June 24 to "discuss Landfill Search Committee procedures and
rules of order "; this could entail a revote on whether to drill at Sites 2, 9, 11, and 17. This occurred because of the
objections of several LSC members (particularly Dovenbarger, Peek, Ralston, Faribault, and Walker), about the
handling of Bryant Walker's proxy vote, and because of the vocal objections of CASE members and others over
the same issue.
* ** The County Commissioners have taken notice that there is a group of dissatisfied people in the
county, who are up in arms over the search for a landfill. They are planning to investigate the Indff ll search
rp ocess at their next meeting on June 29. Meanwhile, both the Orange County Commissioners and the Carrboro
Alderman decided to postpone their votes on approval or disapproval of geotechnical drilling studies until more is
understood of the process. As far as we know, Joyce Engineers and the LOG have been asked to report to the
Commissioners about the process, though the LSC is not formally involved.
Take note that these events have come about because of our actions. We voiced our discontent to the
Commissioners and we were heard. This body is to be commended for recognizing that they are our only
representatives in this issue.
Now we must call on you all once again to come out and show your interest, support, and concern for the
siting of Orange County's Landfill. Highlight June 74 and June 29 on your calenders, as meetings you must
attend. Bang signs, wear your CASE T- shirts (see below), and observe the proceedings at both these meetings.
Please, let's show respect to speakers, and keep heckling to a bare minimum. You will have much more of an
impact by writing cordial and informative letters to the County Commissioners , telling them points that you
would like them to scrutinize at the June 29 meeting.
We have T shirts ! saying, "reduce, reuse, recycle. No Site 11. Let's not dump on the Eno"
Please call Ron Beauvais (732 - 8773) if you would like one (for $6.00) . We will also
th
bring em to the meetings on June 24th and 29th.
- If you have been meaning to send us a contribution, and haven't quite gotten around to it, It's not too late. To all
of you who have helped us out, thank you so much for making these mailings easier. Please send contributions to
CASE, P.O. Box 1561, Hillsborough.
$5 -10 is a reasonable amount, ( though no amount, large or small, will be refused) and may help keep your
neighborhood from disappearing under a mound of aarbana _
To be on our mailing list, if you are not already, please -
complete the Tfollowing and send
to CASE:
ADDRESS—_--
